Virtualization

Okapi > Features > Virtualization

Introduction

Virtualization provides a virtual machine type environment, which is a complete simulation of the underlying hardware. In such an environment, any software capable of execution on the raw hardware can be run in the virtual machines.

Okapi supports “Full Virtualization” which enables complete decoupling of the software from hardware by abstracting the underlying physical system and creating a complete virtual system in which the application can execute. This creates a complete software-based network operating system (NOS) that eliminates the dependency on proprietary hardware.

Virtualization is mainly used for server consolidation to increases the utilization of costly hardware resources such as CPU and to save on power and cooling costs. With Server space consolidation, a slew of server applications can be run on a single machine that had otherwise required as many physical systems to provide the unique operating system and technical specification environments in order to operate. It also provides complete isolation of different virtualized applications- makes the NOS highly secure by design.
